China is a country that has a large population and a few land, the reserve land resource is also insufficient. With the fast development of economy and the constant increase of construction land, the phenomenon of extensive land use is more and more serious. The acceleration rate of highway construction land is obviously faster than other construction land acceleration rate of all kinds of construction land, haven taken up a large amount of high-quality farmland. While in the 4,000 billion economy and stimulating plan, our country put 1,800 billion into the highway, railway, airport, urban and rural power grids constructions. It is easy to foresee that the plot area of the highway will still increase fast. So the research on the intensive use level of the highway land, improving the intensive use level of the highway land have very important realistic meanings .they will help realizing the intensive use of regional land , protecting the farmland, strengthening the guidance, adjust and control of the land management,This research has analyzed relevant theories of the intensive use of the highway land and have summed up the methods of the intensive evaluation of the highway land which are commonly used. On the base of comprehensive research on the economics and society state Of Lanzhou, land use situation and the state of highway communication development, putting road construction in the system of the economics, society and land use. Qualitatively analyzing developing stage of the intensive use of highway land in Lanzhou, and starting from three respects of the land use state of highway , the land use benefit of highway and the intensive use trend of highway, constructing the evaluation index system of intensive use of regional highway, using the analytic hierarchy process to confirm the weight, have evaluated the intensive use of the highway land in Lanzhou, western and the whole country. From the result of the study, the acceleration rate of Lanzhou's highway construction land is very fast , at the extensive use stage, but the intensive use level has an upward trend. Through carrying the intensive use level on the contrast with the western and national highway land's, Lanzhou's intensive use level of highway land use is higher than west and the whole country, but lower than west and the whole country in the sub goal of the intensive use trend, which means that the intensive use of Lanzhou's highway still has very large promotion space. Then introduce the farmland grade result, and analyze the remote sensing picture and DEM image picture, though superposing the current land use situation picture of Lanzhou , national level farmland grade picture of Lanzhou, using ArcGis software to analyze the different routes'occupation of land situation of the Class II highway of Yanchangbao to Gaolan county, predicting two kinds route choosing situations.The intensive evaluation of regional highway land has important realistic meanings on the construction plan of the highway, intensive use land resource and marking scientific and proper land use policy. The farmland grading results can help the highway designer making the correct judgement that helps to save farmland resources. from considering the number and quality of the farmland which is taken up and comparing the different road construction schemes. When choosing the route, we can judge with the aid of the remote sensing image and DEM image, in the deeper research, we can carry on more accurate route choosing analysis through the slope value that is extracted from DEM image.
