A Study Of The Foreign Trade Competitiveness Of Agricultural Products In Jilin Province

Agriculture as the primary industry is the basis of China's national economy. Agricultural products is not only China's traditional comparative advantage products, is also an important export commodity. Since China has introduced"the Three Major Issues"in the government work report in 2003, till the proposal as a great concept of building a new socialist countryside in the"Eleventh Five-Year Plan"are showing government's attention to both the improvement level of primary industry and the increasing of farmers'income.With the development of economic globalization and trade liberalization,worldwide trade competitions among countries become more and more extensive and intensive. Although China's entry the WTO has developed more opportunities, China's agricultural products are facing an unprecedented challenge. Agricultural imports impact on local agriculture cannot be underestimated, otherwise it cannot withstand the strike of foreign agriculture products, it is bound to aggravate the difficulties of domestic marketing, the impact of agricultural development, rural employment and incomes of farmers as well as the overall situation of national economic development.Thus the most fundamental and crucial thing is to enhance China's agriculture international competitiveness, with which China's agriculture can gain initiative in competition, maintain the stable development.Jilin Province is a major agricultural province in Northeast China, agricultural trade play a very important role in the national economy. Jilin Province is situated in the northeast of China, with low development of agricultural industrialization; its farm produce can be summarized in the following three characteristics: First, the quality of grain and other primary agricultural products is low but high price; Second, low levelof agricultural industrialization, a number of farm produce enter in the market or consumed are based on the form of primary products; Third, low standardization of farm produce and output, lack of the basic conditions to enter international futures markets and wholesale markets. At present, the farm produce of Jilin Province is low market-oriented, lacking of market driven and industry driven. The disadvantage situation,"Mass products, Small market, high inventory"of grain become aggravated, which compels us to make great efforts to research and seek more stable markets in both domestic and abroad.The improvement of Jilin major farm produce's international competiveness will lead to the improvement of agricultural efficiency and farmers'income, rural stability, accelerate the problem solving of the"Three Major Issues of Farmers", for building a moderately prosperous society to lay a solid foundation, and is conducive to achieve the goals of turn our province to a new socialist countryside in the period of"Eleventh Five-Year".It becomes particularly important that how to enhance the competitiveness of ouragricultural products in international market; prevent the impact of foreign imports on domestic goods. Therefore, I hope that through the study on Jilin Province's agricultural products competitiveness, to establish a scientific evaluation system for the further research of its development, to find a feasible evaluation criterion to enhance the foreign trade competitiveness of Jilin Province agricultural products, which can make some policy recommendations to rationalize and promote the development of foreign trade of agricultural products in our province.To solve the above problems, this paper is divided into the following seven chapters:Chapter One, a brief Introduction of this paper.Chapter Two, has expatiated the relevant foreign trade competitiveness theories. First of all, define the definition of the competitiveness of foreign trade; analyze the relationship between main competitors. Secondly, explain the definition of agricultural foreign trade competitiveness in detail, and the potential factors of foreigntrade which will influence it. Thirdly, by collecting relevant western economic study, detailed described the historical evolvement of foreign trade competitiveness theory. Finally, summarize the empirical researches of agricultural products foreign trade competitiveness both in domestics and abroad.Chapter Three, the agricultural production and current trade status in Jilin Province. A brief introduction of the production and trade of agricultural products the status quo in Jilin Province. This chapter first introduced the production of agricultural products of Jilin Province; and then introduced the development of agricultural trade in Jilin Province; finally, status the main problems of the current trade in agricultural exports of Jilin Province.Chapter Four, the influencing factors Analysis of Jilin Province's foreign trade competitiveness of agricultural products. This chapter discussed factors which may have a direct and indirect impact on competitiveness.Chapter Five,the analysis of foreign trade competitiveness of agricultural products in Jilin Province. First of all, give relevant analysis index used for foreign trade competitiveness studying. Secondly, the establishment of a comprehensive evaluation model, used principal component analysis to work out the result, derived the greatest impact factor of the main components to foreign trade competitiveness. Finally, give the final conclusions.Chapter Six, the strategies and countermeasures of enhance the internationalcompetitiveness of agricultural products in Jilin Province, and give feasiblesuggestions.
