Evaluating Competitive Power Of Shipping Enterprises By Using Evidential Reasoning Approach

Shipping business is a capital-intensive industry, its operating environment affected by many factors. And it is also a high-risk industry. Especially in the current environment of economic crisis, the shipping market is facing to a grim situation. In order to survive, enterprises can maintain their strength and improve the competitive power during the difficult period. Therefore, scientific evaluation of shipping companies' competition power is necessary. Also the evaluation can provide a reasonable basis for making the future development strategy. The purpose of the paper is to build the evaluation model for competitive power of the shipping enterprises. The evaluation model is systematic and rational, providing a more scientific methods for evaluating the competitive power of shipping enterprises.Firstly, the paper collects the related existing theories on enterprises' competitive power and introduces its composing factor. It provides a theoretical basis for the paper further analysis. Then the paper introduces the shipping enterprise's concept, characteristic and the developing situation. It also elaborates the shipping enterprise's operating indexes. Finally through comparison and choice of enterprises' influencing factor the paper has established a set of more perfect shipping enterprise' competitive power evaluation system according to the instruction and principle of building the evaluation system. And it has made sure all indexes' weight in the system with the analytic hierarchy process.For the evaluation methods, firstly this paper introduces many qualitative evaluation methods. Then Evidential Reasoning Approach elaborated is used to establish the evaluation model in the paper. This model is an important result of this paper. This method can effectively evaluate the quantitative and qualitative indexes under uncertain information. And it can also solve some common evaluation questions. It has the important practical application significance. Then, this paper selected the four representative shipping enterprises to empirical analysis using the model of Evidential Reasoning Approach. It can provide a reference for the later practical application. Finally, the paper summarizes and discusses the evaluation model of Evidence Reasoning Approach and the lack of this paper.
