Current Status And Future Strategies For Development Of Transgenic Cereal Crops In China

China's current agriculture is facing severe challenges, and transgenic technology will be a new breakthrough of China's agriculture research. Transgenic crops development can bring many advantages, including crop yield increase, food safety, agricultural pollution decrease, ecological environment melioration, bio-energy development, industrial improvement and overall national strength enhancement.In this thesis, both domestic and abroad cases were investigated on development of transgenic plants, especially transgenic crops, by literature surveying, policy analyzing, induction and deduction, integrated analyzing, compared analyzing and demonstration analyzing. We summarized the present situation of transgenic plants research, and made a detail analysis on the current status and problem left of transgenic crops in China. Finally, some suggestion was made on how to strengthen research study in the future.The contents of the thesis include six parts: foreword, current situation and development trend of transgenic plants study abroad, current research situation of the main transgenic crops in China, bio-safety evaluation and management in transgenic crops, effect factors on transgenic plant commercialization, and strategies how to improve transgenic plants research in the future. The results are as follows:1. Valuable gene competition is more and more fierce nowadays internationally. The number of countries planting transgenic crops and their planting area are increasing.2. Regulatory gene exploring, multi-characters transgenic plant cultivation and development are becoming focus all over the world.3. Researches of China's main transgenic crops including wheat, rice and maize refer to multiple traits and are into different stage of safety evaluation respectively. It still has some insufficiency. Firstly, we have less valuable genes with independent intellectual property right. Secondly, the multiple gene transformation system is not formed. Thirdly, we lack competitive biotechnology companies fighting with transnational corporations. Finally, China's safety evaluation system, as well as department coordination system is not perfect.4. The successful commercialization of transgenic cotton in China is due to focus on hot-point and difficult in the commercialization, cooperation enhancement among different relevant departments, and governmental substantial support.5. Advices about promoting researches of transgenic crops in China are proposed. We should establish powerful leading organization, coordinate multiple-cooperation of various departments and disciplines, strengthen science popularization, etc.
