Study On Harmonious Development Of Economy And Environment In The Yangtze River Delta

Since the 1980's, the issue of sustainable development has become the focus and has been paid great attention all around the world, with the core of harmonious economy and environment development, especially in the current stage of China's rapid economic stride. How to find a balance between economic development and environmental protection tops prior. As the region with the highest economy and urbanization level in China, the Yangtze River Delta has been given wide attention due to its increasingly growing conflict between rapid economic development and environmental pollution. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to give a further study on harmonious development of regional economy and environment in the view of internal cities in the Yangtze River Delta, to predict the future and to give corresponding measures timelyBased on global sustainable development and comprehensive restructuring of China's economy, with the application of statistical methods and GIS technology, this paper gives a study on the coordinated development issue of economy and environment from both spatial and temporal scales in 16 cities of the Yangtze River Delta in the span of 2000 to 2006. First of all, through the analytic hierarchy process, expert scoring method and the establishment of a comprehensive evaluation model, it analyses the differences and reasons about economic development, environmental development and the harmonious development of economy and environment in 16 cities. Next it deduces the core evolution process of economy, environment and their coordinated development by the use of GIS technology, and predicts future development orbit. Finally, according to different types of harmonious economy and environment development, specific development suggestions are proposed in order to promote the harmonious development in the Yangtze River Delta, and to further achieve the goal of sustainable development.The main conclusions of this study include: the whole economic strength of the Yangtze River Delta region is increasing, but there are still some obvious internal differences. However, it's glad that the gaps have been reduced between the cities. There is a severe environmental problem in the Yangtze River Delta. The overall environment quality has been in a poor level, and failed to be effectively improved. The faster the economy develops, the faster the environment is deteriorated. Even the cities with better environment quality also have had a downward trend. The situation of the harmonious economy and the environment development in the Yangtze River Delta is improving, but the level of coordination is only at a low level. What's more, the cities in which the economy and the environment development is unbalanced are always with backward economy. Therefore, it's forecast initially that the situation of the economy and the environment coordination in the Yangtze River Delta will be improved continuously, the level of coordination will also be boosted, with the economic growth pattern change and rapid economic development.
