Character Of Space Structure And Study On The Development Of Shanghai Commercial Banks

Since the end of last century when Shanghai was established to build an international financial centre, the financial industry has been an important engine of economic development and a pillar industry to promote city level. Shanghai among the top throughout the country at aspect of products,talents,organizations and the market's depth and breadth, gathers a great many financial essentials, and it develops externalities of agglomerative economies. As an essential part of financial system inShanghai, commercial banks present a breakthrough developing tendency------notonly steady developing business scale and network number, but also obviously developing business indicator. At the same time, it presents a certain directional distribution in inner city.Based on the investigation and reference, with geographic mapping and mathematical statistics assisted, the methods of theory with practice,the qualitative and quantitative analysis and comparing and generalizing are comprehensively applied. The article analyzes the strength and weakness of commercial banks in Shanghai, and forecasts development trend of bank's layout in the future.The thesis includes six parts. In chapter one, the paper introduces the concepts of financial industry and commercial banks, then the research object, the importance, the methods, ways and means which are adopted. The second part summarizes development background of Shanghai's commercial banks in order to search the cause of the booming industry at the beginning of physical geography advantage and the development track of industry evolution pushed by government, and it also pointed out the competitive relations of the domestic and foreign commercial banks with the current system. Chapter three analyzes specifically spatial distributions of commercial banks in Shanghai, that the extensity and the unevenness can be felt. In general, commercial banks in Shanghai possess "core-center-transition zone-surrounding" multilevel spatial system obviously according to distribution density and rank; from the angle of suburban areas, commercial banks are in upper-income inner city of suburbs in large quantity; at the same time, different rank and system commercial banks have different layout trend because of different operation functions and service objects. Further, the author generalizes principal influence factors of commercial bank's distribution, which includes economic factors and non-economic factors. The former is represented by population,income level and commercial flow, the latter includes the government push,inter-industry and companies' accessibility. It makes seemingly distributed bank outlets to be a regular and conclusive presentation. SWOT analysis is used in chapter four. It analyzes opportunities and threats of commercial banks in Shanghai in order that they can stand out from furious market competitions, and then Shanghai international financial centre will be ensured constantly and firmly. Based on the above-mentioned, chapter five outlooks the developing direction of commercial banks in Shanghai with the eyes of the look up, and proposes the non-substitutability of traditional physical banks and the spatial distribution of "one main body and two limbs" in city and distant expanding. The sixth chapter is the conclusion of the dissertation.This thesis is innovative in that, from spatial distribution of industry, the prioritized industry of commercial banks in Shanghai is the research object, and it analyzes comprehensively the commercial banks' spatial distribution and its influence factors by different statistical indicators. By region divided, analytic demonstration is more obvious and deep.
