BPI Study On International Settlement Operation Mode Based On Document Processing Centre

International settlement is traditionally one of the intermediary businesses of banks. As economy globalization intensifies and international trade ever expands, volume of international settlement business is accordingly enlarging. As the result, high quality bank performance in international settlement practice is highly requested in terms of accuracy, efficiency and safety. In recent years, with consideration of cost, efficiency and development in mind, more and more banking institutions in China especially some foreign banks, have replaced conventional teller-audit based operating mode with the brand-new "document processing centre" that features concentrated remote telegraphic transfer mode. With regards to issues mentioned above, this article attempts to draw comparison between the two different operating modes in terms of efficiency, cost, elasticity by applying certain theories and analytic instruments from operation management and process management. It also evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of the two modes as well as their respective applying conditions from an objective and scientific point of view. Based on the intensive analyses, this article aims to provide some useful references for current international business in China's banking system.This article is divided into 4 chapters as followed:Chapter One: Summarize the background and significance of the study on international settlement operation mode; theories that are required in the study; and measures that are adopted in the study.Chapter Two: Detailed introduction of the conventional teller-audit based operating mode as an example to Xiamen International Bank, analysis on the problem created in the practice using flow chart and timer shaft.Chapter Three: Description of the process how to improve and integrate of the teller-audit based operating mode by the application of the method of process design on the aim of the remote images transmission. Detailed introduction of the improved document-processing-centre operating mode as an example to Xiamen International Bank, and summarize how to build the standardization of the new operation mode and to achieve the staff evaluation connecting with the process.Chapter Four: By application of theories of production efficiency and cost control together with the aid of authentic data that is collected from some banks in Xiamen, the author compares and calculates the mentioned two modes in aspects of efficiency, cost and elasticity, and gives my personal advice and suggestions regarding second improvement of the document-processing-center operation mode; valuates the actual effect on practice of the two modes that are being adopted in Xiamen region, thus trying to enhance the practical value of this research article.
