The value of the scientific theory is that it can guide practice effectively. the world financial crisis had shown that so far economic theory still can not effectively guide the practice. how to develop it in the end as to improve the scientific nature of economic theory has become the subject of today's economists. so we must re-comb the economic theory. For this, we must look back to the originator of economics - Adam Smith. In this paper, we investigate the Smith economics's research objective, methods and ideological origins and find it's study way belong to the natural philosophy. he attempts to create a economic theory like Newton's mechanics which can explain the whole economy world. However, the economic world is different from the natural world and the economic theory not be the same as the natural sciences theory. from the knowledge character perspective, the economic theory of his is just the mixture of the philosophy and social sciences. As we know, firstly the knowledge of natural philosophy do not have verifiable and predictable characters;Second, this knowledge systems will inevitably lead to some conceptual problems which can not be resolved, so it can not improve and develop through the experience and concept problems be solved. However, it is the classical economics created by the Smith that always regard itself as a knowledge which reveals the essence and laws of economy world, which set up a serious man-made obstacles for the development of the economics. Therefore, the analysis of the issue of character of Smith economics's knowledge system ,not only it will be of great value to clarify the history of economics, the assessment of contemporary economics, as well as development economics, but also to explore the knowledge of philosophy and epistemology.
