Study On The International Competitiveness Of Servieces Trade In Shanghai

Since 80s' of the 20^th century, the global industrial structure has changed dramatically and the proportion of the tertiary industry is getting higher and higher in the national economy because of the rapid development of the high-tech such as the higher information and communication technology, and the accelerated process of the economic globalization.A distinctive feature is that the greatly increased importance of the services trade in a country's economic growth. It has become the important force which affect to the economic development of the countries and regions, a measure and an important criterion of the international competitiveness of a country or region. The thesis is a study on the international competitiveness of services trade in Shanghai based on this background. It evaluated the international competitiveness of services trade in Shanghai based on the analysis of development and the current situation of this issue in Shanghai.First of all, it analyzed the international competitiveness and the competitiveness of various industries in Shanghai that used the comparative advantage theory and chose the international market share, normalized trade balance, revealed comparative advantage and export effect on employment. These four indexes constituted an indicator system which based on the service import and export data.Secondly, it used the Porter's "diamond model" in the qualitative analysis on its impact factors. Porter's "diamond model" model has been modified in this thesis, that the role of government becames the core issue in it. And added two auxiliary factors in this analysis which include the international and domestic environment, explored the potential competitiveness of services trade in Shanghai.Thirdly, it used the correlation coefficient and the regression analysis to analyze the impact to the international competitiveness. It selected the five variables data which include the market opening level of services trade, the development level of the service sector, the level of FDI, the human resource capital and urbanization level. The results showed those five variables has the positive relation with the trade and services export. Especially the market liberalization of services trade, the development of services sector and the urbanization level have high relativity with each other. It well explained the changes of the competitiveness.Finally, this thesis proposed the ideas to enhance competitiveness of service trade in Shanghai base on the problems of development. It include to exert the comparative advantages of services trade in Shanghai, to transform the comparative advantage into the competitive advantage, to build and sound the cultivated mechanisms of the higher and professional production factors, the relevant and auxiliary industries of services trade should be coordinated, to change the existing pattern of market competition, create an equitable completive environment, to exert the advantages of a role in the management of the government, to increase the infrastructure construction, improve the efficiency of the use of foreign capital.
