China's sustained and rapid economic growth has greatly boosted its catering industry. Accordingly, the operational pattern of the industry has shifted dramatically from single restaurant businesses to large scale ones and chains. However, a growing number of chain restaurants have brought insurmountable challenges to the industry's traditional way of management, which relies solely on manual operation and data analysis, and have thus hindered the sustainable development of the industry. Obsolete means of competition, outdated statistics, inefficiency and other problems have forced the domestic catering industry to seek a sophisticated chain management information system (MIS), more efficient and scientific, to improve the traditional operational and management ideology and foster the self-governing of catering chains. This thesis chooses Company A, a typical leisure and catering chain in China, as its research subject, analyzes a number of management problems in the process of the company's development, such as delayed information, manual data collection, inefficient management, unresponsiveness to management problems, poor execution and regulation caused by inefficient communication, operational inconsistency and challenges brought by meticulous management and assessment. Based on the analysis, the thesis proposes an overall plan, IT framework and principles for the design of the company's chain MIS, and explores the functional and operational mechanism of the system and the control over its implementation. Not only does the chain MIS designed in the thesis solve Company A's problems and improve its management, but the conclusion of the thesis can inspire similar chains as well.
