The Research On The GS1 Application In The Food Cold Chain

The internationalization and marketization of Food Industry in China has been further accelerated by the global economic integration. Since the food security incidents have emerged in endlessly at home and abroad, the food safety problem has received a great deal of recent attention, especially to the more sensitive food cold chain. Thus, the ability to trace materials and products up and down the food cold chain efficiently and safely has become the development tendency in today's world. As a global language of business, GS1 is an international standard system working for the supply chain. And GS1 has been widely used in multiple fields and links, on a global scale, with a bright future for application, such as e-commerce, food traceability and so on. Therefore, the research on the application of GS1 is sufficiently significant to the Food Cold Chain.For studying Food Cold Chain, this article summarized the history and the system frame of GS1 using theoretical analysis, historical analysis and systematical analysis based on some previous studies. At the meantime, the article also creatively introduced the general model of GS1 for Food Cold Chain according to the current situation of the application of GS1 in food industry and characteristics of Food Cold Chain. Based on the model analysis, this study indicated the application of GS1 in the research of Bar Code, the collection and exchange of information using point-to-net method. And this study also introduced the application of Complex Adaptive Model in GS1 and Food Cold Chain system combining the latest EPC and GDSN techniques. Ultimately, this study analyzed the future and the limitation of GS1 in Chinese Food Cold Chain industry, and the author made some suggestion for its improvement.
