The Inheritance And Changes From Traditional Wedding Customs To Modern Wedding Customs

Since the formation of "Six ceremony" in the Zhou dynasty,the traditional marriage relation and ceremony have been inherited for thousands of years,and now still occupy an important position in the marriage customs.Compared to the past,the procedure has been simplified,but still in the scope of "six ceremony".However,with the development of social economy and ideology update,traditional marriage practices are continuously affected by western civilization and modern civilization,so that the whole culture of marriage shows a colorful situation with the coexistence of old and new,eastern and western..In this paper,taking Dongguan Jiaxiang Han wedding as an example,the author combines the method of field investigation and related references.With the background of wedding custom exchange before liberation and post-liberation,and from the situation of modern wedding customs,the author investigates the remains of traditional elements of the wedding(including a matchmaker,blind date,bride price, auspicious day and Fu,meeting the bride,three bows,the wedding reception, returning to the bride's home).Although the inheritance changes,the basic model of traditional wedding customs still remains,and will not disappear in a short period of time or change them beyond recognition.The locals still prepare for a wedding according to the traditional procedure,but because of economic development and social progress,especially after the foundation of the People's Republic of China, great changes have taken place in some aspects of wedding customs.The author thinks the changes are as follows:The legalization of the marriage,the criteria of individuation,broadened region for choosing spouse,free love,the modernization of marriage thought,the urbanization of wedding ceremony and commercialization of marriage customs.It is obvious that the social changes and economic development have extensive influence on local wedding custom and actively promote it.From the inheritance and change of the traditional wedding customs in Dongguan,it can be seen that the changes in the marriage concept of the local people are still in the process from quantitative change to qualitative change,and haven't yet reached the level of completely qualitative change.That is to say,people haven't get rid of the shackles of traditional marriage customs.It is not common to fully accept and practice the modern marriage.With the development of social civilization,the meaning and functions of traditional marriage will gradually turn to the true celebration of life and social activities.Some retained traditional ceremonies and contents are mainly used in recreational activities to reflect the customs and traditions.Advocating the practice of new weddiag with traditional style as well as modern civilization features is the requirements of social progress and the necessity of historical development.
