In the last a few days of year 2008, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China announced that three 3G operation licenses will be issued to telecom operators. As expected, China mobile obtained the TD-CDMA license which is with China independent property rights; China Unicom obtained the WCDMA license which is used most broadly over the world; while China Telecom obtained the CDMA2000 license.This article is just written at the beginning of year of starting 3G and stands the perspective of telecom operators. By introducing the situation of terminal customization conducted by foreign telecom operators, analyzing and summarizing China current terminal customization, making a brief introduction and analysis to China early 3G terminal customization, using the methods of theoretical analysis, empirical case study, internal interviews and another qualitative research ways, this article will present a comprehensive understanding to the origin and development trends of terminal customization; it will also give a outlook to China 3G terminal customization.
