Industrial production pattern is the rational choice of humankind under environmental constraints and productive force limitations. While greatly increasing economic welfare of human being, traditional linear economic development has resulted in resource shortage and environmental degradation. Deteriorating environment and the growing threat of the depletion of resources force people to think about the transformation and integration of industrial production pattern. Developing eco-industrial parks (EIPs) is an important choice of world's industrial development in 21st Century. It is the necessary requirement of constructing resource saving, environment friendly society. Following the fundamentals of circular economy and industrial ecology, eco-industrial parks both at home and abroad have attained well-known economic, environmental and social benefits. However, the stable development of EIPs becomes a key issue because of enterprises' cluster and interdependence within EIPs. The inefficiency of member companies in forming coordinated strategies, forming communal goals, establishing by-product exchanges, constructing corporate culture, building social capital, as well as establishing institutions have dramatically impacted the stable development of EIPs. The dissertation combines theoretical analysis with empirical researches, integrates qualitative analytical methodologies with quantitative analytical methodologies with an aim to study the stability of eco-industrial parks. It mainly investigates the stability of Eco-industrial Parks from network organization governance perspective. This dissertation could be divided into 7 separated but correlated parts:Section one focuses on background and academic significance of investigating stability of eco-industrial parks from network organization governance perspective, briefly introduces the research methodologies and framework of the dissertation. It then summarizes research and innovations. Section two introduces literature review of related research fields including that of network organization governance, stability, as well as industrial ecology. It then points out the inefficiency of present studies and possible breakthroughs. Section three briefly expounds the development of eco-industrial parks both at home and abroad and indicates the achievement as well as problems (especially stability of EIPs) of EIPs and introduces the discussion of network organization. Section four investigates formation of EIPs from network organization perspective and explores the formation of EIPs, namely cost reduction, benefit increase, competence enhancement, and promotion of homogeneity or heterogeneity information. Section five proposes the conceptual model of stability of eco-industrial parks from network organization governance perspective. It investigates the stability of EIPs from aspects of collective strategy, corporate goal, input-output coordination, culture and social capital construction, as well as institution construction. Section six carries out empirical analysis of Qinshan eco-industrial Park and some propositions are offered subsequently. Section seven summarizes the main points addressed in the dissertation and points out the limitations of the research and research area of further researches. The innovations of this dissertation are mainly embodied in two aspects. 1. The innovation of research perspective. The thesis integrates the network organization theories from Economics, Management, Sociology perspectives and proposes the network organization governance perspective. 2. The innovation of the research methodologies. To investigate the stability of eco-industrial Parks, this thesis employs both qualitative and quantitative methods. Integrating quantitative method with qualitative method, the dissertation studies the stability of EIPs from the perspectives of collective strategy, corporate goal, input-output coordination, culture and social capital construction, as well as institution construction.
