Value Engineering is widely used more and more in the automotive industry. Not only attention has its superior performance indexed but also consideration its superior function on automobile parts design system. However, the traditional value engineering function in determining the weight of products has the defects of human subjectivity. Therefore, this paper presents an improved value engineering method which used in the function assessment of automotive components. I hope that this improved method can provide a new reference for the design and analysis of automotive componentsThrough analysis of several commonly used subjective weightings, some problems were found such as large subjectivity, complicated working procedures, devastative evaluation results. Accordingly, when determining weight, objective weighting should be addressed in order to obtain certain objective evaluation results and avoid deviation caused by subjectivity. In the process of choosing one method of objective weighting, by means of a comparative analysis of four commonly used methods of objective weight, it was found that they share the same flaws, such as difficult to realize correlation between indicators and large computation. In order to solve the above problems attached to methods of objective weighting, the present study introduced customer satisfaction evaluation to the course of determine weight and held a detailed study of the method of principle component analysis on its principles, property and appliance conditions. Based on a comparative analysis with the four commonly used methods of objective weighting. Finally this paper selects the principal component analysis method to determine the objective weight.In this paper, comprehensive weighting is the method which based on retains subjective weight information and then introduction objective weight information, by adjusting both composition proportions to determine weight. This paper determines comprehensive weighting, subjective weighting and objective weighting function relationship. Accordingly, the comprehensive weighting can be transformed into seeking subjective and objective weightings coefficientα,β. In order to get the weighting coefficientα,β, an ideal scheme was structured and the weighted distance between objective value and subjective value was compared. By linear programming modelα,βare obtained when the weighted distance is minimum. And then theα,βare regarded as the coefficient to the comprehensive weighted. In the last part of this thesis, car rearview mirrors were taken as an example to study the application of the comprehensive weighting. The comprehensive weighting, subjective weighting and objective weighting were respectively used to evaluation automobile rearview mirror function. From value connotation and function vector two aspects to compare three evaluation results. Analysis showed that comprehensive weighting can accurately found the lowest value and the most need improved product objects, and given more reasonable function weight; the function weight given by subjective weighting method was close to comprehensive weighting's method, but it can only find the lowest product objectives; although objective can find the lowest value and the most need improved product object, given unreasonable weight. Analysis results verified that the comprehensive weighting method was reasonable.By system study, comprehensive weighting evaluation method was given in this paper. Predictably, the application of comprehensive weighting will be significant in evaluating of the function of value engineering as a more practical new method in value engineering.
