The Effects Of The Event To The Holding City's Hotel Industry

The paper took the world University Games in Shenzhen (hereinafter referred to as the Universiade) as a starting point, which systematically discussed a framework of how the regional hotel industry dealing with festival and special event. The paper used literature data to comb the study results; used interviews to obtain the relevant data; used contrast analysis to get reasonable conclusion. Over viewing domestic and foreign research, only a few people studied the impact of events on the hotel industry, especially in the domestic research. The case study of Shenzhen city is good representative sample.The paper is divided into two parts. The first part discussed the factors affecting development of the hotel industry. The innovation is collecting recent years'data of several cities, using SPSS's Person analysis to verify the hotel industry and tourism is in the high correlation, which is important for the following analysis. Then introduced the concept of the festival activities, the main two types and discussed the assessment of the event activities framework.The latter part is focused on the impact of Universiade to Shenzhen hotel industry and how to deal with the impact. The paper introduced the basic information of the Universiade and the tourism resources of Shenzhen city and mainly analyzed the effect of the Universiade. Since lacking of Universiade data, the paper collected data of 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2001 Beijing Universiade and comparing them to know that the Universiade has much less effect. Then the paper analyzed the accommodation demand coursed by the Universiade, concluded that it could not attract many tourists. The following part carefully analyzed the present situation of the Shenzhen hotel industry, which found that it's not optimistic, the occupancy rates, operation and investment returns were not good. The reason was that the current demand and supply of Shenzhen hotel industry was already out of balance.Based on the analysis, the paper concluded that Shenzhen city should think twice before planning new hotels. And take other measures to meet the proper demand of the Universiade may course. The city should make relevant rules to regulate the market, meanwhile improve the local tourist attraction and infrastructure.
