With the rapid development of the society and economy in our country, the competition for talent people has become fiercer. The staff career development is increasingly being emphasized by enterprises and considered as a vital part of the human resource strategy management. Banks are no exceptions. However, due to some management problems, the commercial banks are taking a flat organization reform, the process of which is speeding up because of the financial crisis in 2008. Because of the reform, banks cut the management hierarchies as well as positions, which narrow the development path and promotion space of the staff. Through the current development of commercial banks, the number of employees with high diploma increases, especially those who has got Master or Doctor Degrees. At the same time, the too large number of total employees brings about a lot of issues. Employees of banks always consider promotion as the most effective development way due to the impact of traditional culture, but there are few chances to be promoted in the flat organizational banks. So there will be a pause in the professional development when the employee reaches a certain level in the bank. And then the career plateau shows up and influences negatively on the employees' working motivation and job satisfaction, and fatherly gives a fatal blow to the operation and stability of the bank. There have been many foreign researches on the career plateau. The related domestic studies mainly focus on the aspects of qualitative analysis. There are few systematical empirical studies especially on bank staff. This paper has done a questionnaire survey based on the review of related researches, finally drawn some suggestions for better solution of the career stagnation. There are three parts in the paper. First, questionnaire preparation. Second, data analysis, including descriptive statistics, comparison, correlation and regression. Third, management suggestions.Using the SPSS 16.0, the results of the paper are:I, demographic variables can do some effects on different components of career plateau.Ⅱ, the job satisfaction and its each dimension are significantly discrepant on different levels of career plateau.Ⅲ, there is a negative correlation between career plateau and job satisfaction, while centralizing plateau has significant positive correlation with general satisfaction. IV, the regression analysis has shown that job satisfaction can be significantly predicted by centralizing plateau, content plateau and hierarchical plateau. The coefficients are respectively-0.235,-0.226,-0.071.The innovation of this paper includes three aspects. Firstly, it is an empirical study on career plateau of subjective measurement based on the perspective of psychology, utilizing both domestic and foreign researches in the context of China. Secondly, it specifically studies the bank staff, explores the influences differentiation and correlations among career plateaus and job satisfaction, and gets the expected results. Finally, it provides banks with many implications on career plateau management, and will help ease the staff's feeling of career stagnation and improve the job satisfaction.
