Study On Modeling The Relationship Between IT Capabilities And Enterprise Competitive Advantage Based On Complex Systems Theory

China put forward the strategic of "promoting industrialization and driving modernization with informationization" in 2001. Since then a large number of enterprises have invested huge amount of money for the implementation of informatization construction. In the tide of information economy, information technology has been the basic conditions for an enterprise to exist and grow. Companies are also trying to improve competitive advantage with the informatization construction, but a considerable number of IT investment projects did not bring the expected investment income, the so-called IT "productivity paradox". Therefore, whether IT is able to bring competitive advantage has become a subject not only intently argued by scholars but also highly valued by companies.On the research of IT capabilities and competitive advantages there are mainly two kinds of perspectives, the resources view and dynamic capability view. But how IT capabilities influence competitive advantage, both perspectives did not give the answer. From the perspective of complex systems modeling, in this dissertation an NK model of IT capability structure is established to explore the way for a company to improve IT capabilities. It explains the mechanism that IT capabilities influence competitive advantage in theory, and also it gives the company guidance to increase the competitive advantage in practice.This dissertation first reviews the literature of IT capabilities and complexity theories on the basis of background introduction, and then it states the research objectives, the significance and contribution. In the theoretical foundation part, the author defines the IT capability structure based on complex systems theory, and then introduces the related theories and methods in details; at last, it demonstrates the complex systems theory applicability on IT capabilities promotion from internal consistency and logicality between IT capability structure and the properties of complex systems theory. In the key part of the dissertation, firstly, it establishes the NK model of IT capability structure, then simulates and analyses on ten types complexity; secondly, concludes a series of laws of IT capabilities promotion, and raises and analyses the NK model of IT capability structure considering weight, demonstrates it accord with the laws of equal weight; thirdly, based on the analysis of the previous paper, proposes countermeasures and recommendations for enterprise's informatization construction.The principal innovation of this dissertation is the NK model of IT capability structure established from the perspective of complex systems modeling. It makes up for deficiencies that the resources view can not adapt to dynamic changes in the environment and that the dynamic capability view is only in theory. Countermeasures and suggestions proposed on the basis of the NK model may provide new ideas for the enterprise informatization construction in China.
