As one of the main ecological fragile areas of China, the land use change in Gansu province had a significant impact on the country's social and eco-effectiveness, therefore it's of great significance to carry out the land use change in Gansu province. Major changes of land use change in Gansu province have taken place in the depth and breadth since the founding of the PRC. The question that we need to study first is the extent of land use change in Gansu province and its driving factors. Last year, some scholars studied land use change in Gansu province. But a different perspective on this theme is selected in this paper to conduct a comprehensive study. With SPSS13.0 software, the land use structure of each county in Gansu province was studied by using cluster analysis, principal component analysis, canonical correlation analysis and other methods. The results show that major changes of land use change in Gansu province have taken place in the depth and breadth in years 1997-2005. First, there are more types of land use structure in 2005 than that of 2007; second, the development of diversified and balanced is taking place in various types of structures internal. Qualitative analysis shows that economic development, population growth, urban expansion, policy incentives and other factors are the main driving factors of the changes on land use structure in the Counties of Gansu Province; Quantitative analysis showed that Urban expansion, revenue, agriculture mechanization, the proportion of secondary industry and so on are the main driving factors, and the driving role of urban expansion is more sustainable and stable relatively. At the same time, a brief analysis and forecasting on arable land and construction land which impact human activities most importantly is studied in this paper. There was a strong negative correlation between them, and the gray GM (1,1) model prediction results show that arable land in Gansu province will continue to decrease, and construction land will continue to increase. The main text is divided into five parts, including Literature review, Analysis of structural changes, Driving factors, Arable land and construction land trend, and Countermeasures. In the first part, the innovation and Research ideas in this article is proposed based on Research at home and abroad and progress in Gansu province; in the second part, the counties' land use structures are classified both in 1997 and 2005 by using the cluster analysis, combining characteristics of land use structure; in the third part, the qualitative and quantitative analysis are used to analyze the driving factors of land use change; in the fourth part, a brief analysis and forecasting on arable land and construction land is studied; in the fifth part, optimization of the counties'land use structure in Gansu province is proposed, focusing on farmland, forest land, construction land and other land use types.
