Research On The Transformation Of Township Enterprises

Township enterprises are one of the achievements of china's reform and opening up. In the 1980s, township enterprises have greatly promoted rural economic development, improved economic strength and the standard of living in rural areas, and cultivated a large number of farmer-turned entrepreneurs. With the gradual establishement of China's socialist market economy, township enterprises have once plummeted into abyss, against it arousing all sorts of doubts and objections from those on the outside. This paper probes into how to, under today's circumstances of constructing the new socialist countryside, assess the status of the township enterprises, guide their transformation in due course, so as to maintain sustainable development of township enterprises and thus let them play a positive role in rural urbanization. Through field research in Daqiao town in the middle part of Jiangsu province, this paper analyzes the developing history of township enterprises in Daqiao town, dissects the encountered problems and sums up the process of the first transformation of the enterprises and problems that remained after that transformation. It has been discovered that through two transformations township enterprises in Daqiao town have achieved great progress and played a vital role in regional economic development, the new countryside construction as well as rural urbanization.Through specific studies on the transformation process of township enterprises in Daqiao town, this paper argues that, as an important part of Chinese characteristic socialism, township enterprises are significant for the building of the new socialist countryside and therefore we should uphold and develop township enterprises rather than doubt and deny them. It also finds that the development of township enterprises can't follow the old paths, but to adapt to the development of the market economy, advance with the times and take transformations in good time. For furthering illustration, this paper then examines strategies of township enterprises transformation and analyzes various restraining factors in the transformation, that is, the township enterprises should adhere to the development strategy of cooperation, through which township enterprises maintain a constant growth;Township enterprises should hold on to the foundation of their existence and development, which is their flesh-and-blood ties with rural areas and farmers.
