In recent years, telecommunications industry has been grew fast in China, from which the communication device manufacturing has benefit a lot, meanwhile, the accelerated development of 3G and Triple Play will promote the communication device manufacturing in China to grow faster. However, with the deepening of economic globalization and economic integration, competition for technologies and patents goes increasingly fierce in communication device market. Competition for technologies will finally turns to competition for patents, enterprises who want to enhance the competitiveness in fierce competition must strengthen their protection of patents. Because of the huge gap between patent protection in domestic enterprises and that in foreign famous enterprises, it is necessary and urgent for domestic enterprises to implement patent strategy. This study aims to provide some suggestions on patent strategy for domestic communication device manufactures. In this paper, the research of patent map as well as patent strategy were reviewed and summarized, then based on the patent data of Huawei, Zhongxing and Cisco from 1995 to 2009, with analytic method of management patent map, maps of inventors'distribution, growth trend and IPC distribution were draw, a comparative analysis was made among Huawei, Zhongxing and Cisco, finally, according to the analysis, some suggestions on patent strategy for domestic communication device manufactures were provided.
