Analysis On The Competitiveness And Complementarity Of The Agricultural Trade Between The Two Sides Of The Taiwan Straits

The agricultural trade between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits is an important part of the cross-straits trade.With the development of the cross-straits trade,their agricultural trade has also made considerable progress.But compared with the cross-straits overall trade,there still exists great gap.Analysis on the competitiveness and complementarity of the agricultural trade between Mainland China and Taiwan,is of enormously significant,not only promotes cross-straits agriculture structure adjustment and the industrialization of agriculture development,but also helps cross-straits agricultural trade policy adjustment.The thesis firstly studies the status and characteristic of the bilateral agricultural trade cross the Taiwan Straits,and analyzes the factors affecting the cross-straits agricultural trade.And then analyzes the competitive advantage of agricultural products between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits using trade competitiveness index.Quantitatively analyzes the competitiveness and complementarity of agricultural trade between Mainland China and Taiwan by the use of various indicators,such as the export similarity index,intra-industry trade index.The result of research indicate that agricultural trade competitiveness of two sides of the Taiwan Straits both shows obvious declining trend.And there is a certain degree of competition between Mainland China and Taiwan about agricultural products in the world market , because their export products structure and export market structure are similar.However the variety of competitive product is limited,concentrates in a few agricultural products,such as aquatic products.To some extent,there is a structural complementarity.There is also competition of agricultural trade between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits,but the cross-straits bilateral trade of agricultural products is mainly inter-industry trade based on resource endowments.The overall trade structure shows strong complementarity , and the product category of complementary is more than that of competition.Combined the result of the analysis,the article proposes that Mainland China and Taiwan should strengthen cross-straits agricultural cooperation and enhance the international competitiveness of cross-straits agricultural products.The cross-straits should implement agricultural exports diversification strategy,strengthen the cooperation about agricultural product inspection and quarantine,accelerate the signing process of ECFA,to promote the sustainable development of cross-straits bilateral trade of agricultural products.
