Series of Statistical Reports on Internet Development in China has been released since 1997,shortly after CHINANET widely used.These 25 reports not only show large amounts of valuable data about Internet development in China, but also tell us about many important social impacts of Internet in China. Marshall Mcluhan said "The Medium is the Message". We can consider the series of Statistical Reports on Internet Development in China as a kind of media. With accessing to much more information of both technical and non-technical aspects, we could analyze all the Reports on Internet Development in China in various types. It will help us to understand that under rapid development of the Internet what has occurred in our society over these years more clearly and how the Internet has influenced our life.This thesis is mainly composed of four parts. The first part introduces the theme background, its research significance preparation for research, present research situation and study design, and put forward the main content and new ideas. The second part elaborates research on how and why structures, survey items and survey data keep changing.According to the previous analysis and reliable data,the third part evaluates social impacts of Internet development in China from two levels,macro and micro. The last part of this thesis summarizes viewpoints above-mentioned and the existing shortcomings.
