On The Establishment Of Cotton Base Of Shijiazhuang In The Early Days Of New China

In 1953, China began to implement the first five-year national economic development plan (1953-1957). During the "First Five-Year" Plan period, relying on raw materials and transportation advantages, Shijiazhuang began to construct the textile industrial base of large-scale cotton, and the Second State-Cotton Mill of Shijiazhuang is one of these. In this study, from the perspective of business history, the author researched on the process of constructing and the effect on the economy and the process of urbanization in Shijiazhuang by using the documents of archives of the Second State-owned Cotton Mill in Shijiazhuang, historical collections and archives of Hebei Province, and some oral historical data. The plant is a microcosm of the large environment of society. We can see the large environment of society at that time from a factory. At present, the current academic research into the history of the company is still in its infancy stage. So the study on the process of the Second State-Cotton Mill of Shijiazhuang is not only for enterprise itself, but also to analyze the social environment at that time and has a great significance for the formation of Shijiazhuang industrial base, which has a certain academic value.The whole paper includes an introduction and three parts:In the introduction, the author summarizes the Research Status of history of the major textile enterprises in Shijiazhuang, reviews the shortcomings and problems as well as the study description in their studies.In the first part, the author reviews the process of building Shijiazhuang textile industrial base, including the historical basis for the establishment of cotton base. Shijiazhuang region has the tradition of planting cotton since ancient times. The author also introduces the reasons of building the plant from a macro and micro aspects and the reasons for the establishment of united base of cotton and how to shape it.In the second part, the author discusses the composition of the cadres of the Cotton Mill after the completion, the main system, department's setup, operational processes, and a survey on workers'life in the Second State-owned Cotton Mill in Shijiazhuang.In the third part, the author researches the effect on and the city's characteristic of the establishment of cotton base in Shijiazhuang. And the author also researches on population movements and population growth caused by the establishment of industrial base and discusses the effect of immigrant culture on city's culture of Shijiazhuang.In the beginning of the country's establishment ,the base of large cotton in Shijiazhuang made the process of urbanization stable, fast, also made the city of Shijiazhuang in sharp features, and the industry immigrants' arriving added a color of diversity on Shijiazhuang cultural .
