Research On International Standards Competition Of The Communications Technology

Modern Communications Technology Industry has become a major representative of high-tech industry, and to develop international standards for communications technology has become the main strategic objectives and competitive focus for the Communications Technology Industry. From the first and the second generation of mobile communications, due to the lack of its own patents, China's communication technology were at a disadvantage in the development and implementation of international standards, the standard which has plagued China's telecom industry is an important issue. TD-SCDMA is historic breakthrough of China's development of "international standards". However, China's enterprises in the use of this standard are still controlled by others, mainly due to the lack of independent intellectual property rights.When 3G business is in the ascendant, the international community has begun to define 4G intense international standards. In the forthcoming round of competition in the communication technology standards, the major challenge is the independent intellectual property rights of international standards for China's telecommunications technology companies. This paper will examine the communications industry technical standards with a standard competition perspective, trying to provide a theoretical basis for competitive strategy and reference for the competition of international standards of China's communication technology.Based on theories of Industrial Economics, International Economics,Development Economics, Information Economics, Division of Labor, Life-cycle, Comparative Advantage, Competitive Advantage, etc., this paper has a breakthrough in building the life-cycle model of communication standards. Several analysis methods are combined here to carry out a comprehensive investigation:combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis, combination of theoretical deduction and case studies, comparative analysis, game analysis, and so on. Stages of standards have been improved, and the innovative life-cycle analysis has been made for the standards of objectivity of communication technology. In the life cycle framework, this paper has completed a comprehensive analysis of competition mode for international communication standards. Finally, this paper points out what strategy should China adopt, actively involving in communications technology industry alliance and promoting the industrial chain the formation and refinement. Both from the perspective of corporate and government, this paper makes some suggestions on participation in the communication technology standards for China.
