Research On The Value Assessment Of Invention Patent In China

Since the middle of 20th century, with the rapid development of scientific and technological innovations in the world, industrialized revolution has been driven much deeper and broader. At the same time, knowledge capital has become the leading element in the production factors, espetially the invention patents, which concentrated reflects the value of technology. In recent years, both the quantity or the speed of the application of invention patents in China has been improved. But the situation of capital operation on invention patents has lagged behind developed countries. The main reason is lacking of accurate and certain price in the patent trading courses. So value assessment of patents is a basis point, which could help to get an accurate trading price. Because this work started later and is in a low level in our country, so researching on the value assessment of invention patent is possible and meaningful. This paper included the following aspects:Firstly, based on both the summary of other people's research on value assessment of invention patent and the feature analysis of invention patent, the thesis discusses that we should chose different methods at different phases in value assessment of invention patent. Since uncertain factors influencing the value of invention patent are quite different from each other between the time before and after patents'application, the research should divid the economic life of patent into two phases. So we choose the cut-in-date of patent as the demarcation point.Secondly, Before applying for invention patents, the factors influencing their value are not only including the patent itself, but also the uncertainty about market. Furthermore, the characters of real options are also reflected in patent. Comparing with other method, we finally choose the option to defer approach to assess the value of patent before applying.Thirdly, after applying for patent, the factors influencing their value are mainly concentrated on patented products, which are related with the market transaction. After comparing with other method, we found that both the income approach and option approach are appropriate to the purpose of this paper. But income approach is much easier and common, so we finally choose this method to assess patents'value after applying.The main research focuses and innovationa of this paper are as following: this thesis researched the value assessment of invention patents by dividing life cycly of invention patents into two stages, before applying for patent and after. By comparing and selecting the appropriate model of patent valuation, the article proposes a new idea to assess patent value.
