The economy in China has been developed rapidly since 1978 with the implement of the open and reform policy. However we have to admit that the problem of environmental pollution has been increased with the development of the industrialization. Nowadays, having realized the importance of the environment, our government and relevant departments begin to take various measures to improve the environment and reacts, but the environmental pollution is still a severe problem in China. Therefore it is important to study how these problems come about and how to identify the main influencing factors on environmental pollution in order to solve this problem in nature.Take air pollution as an example, the present paper is an experimental research on the factors that influence the discharge amount of waste gas based on two independent methods. On the one hand, the influential factors are divided into two groups. One group consists of Pollution coefficient, Middle demand adjustment, Residents consumption, Government consumption, Capital formation and Net exports whereas the other includes Pollution coefficient, The mode of economic growth, Industrial Structure and Economics of scale. Later, the contributions and contribution rates to the change of waste gas discharge amount from 1997 to 2002 are calculated. On the other hand, the influential factors are divided into Scale effect, Structure effect and Generalized technology effect, based on the PDM method. Moreover the selected sample spaces are decomposed under the actual circumstances in different stages which are Environmental degradation stage, Environmental improvement stage and Deterioration of the environment. At last, the conclusions are drawn from the comparison of the method. Besides, some suggestions are proposed in the thesis.
