Today's market competition heats up, new products and new technologies emerge in endlessly, product homogeneity is more and more serious, products'life-cycle shows shorter and shorter, and now the market has been changed from the seller market to buyer market. The customer demand changes at every moment and is full of personality. It's an urgent problem to solve for manufacturing enterprises that how to quickly respond to customer needs and create products to customer satisfaction.Value engineering theory thinks what customers really buy is not the products or service itself, but also a kind of value, a value to meet certain requirements. The customer needs is not only the actual functional requirements, but also include a variety of needs, such as: aesthetic requirements, cost requirements, performance requirements and so on.First, the thesis gives a in-depth analysis about the application of value engineering and its related theories, proposes the lack of existing theory, and introduces the theory of customer satisfaction in detail, including consumer demand analysis, purchase motivation and the basic theory about satisfaction etc. Based on analyzing the satisfaction theory, this paper develops the connotation of traditional value, elaborates the generalized function and generalized cost, and gives the computational formula of the generalized value.Secondly, the thesis researches the evaluation methodology of generalized value, which gives the numerical size of generalized value using a strategy based on large group decision in the perspective of customer group.Finally, with the proposed evaluation method of generalized value applied in the product function configuration, an optimal model of product function configuration is established. To some extent, it is guaranteed that the products not only meet the target cost but also make most of the customers satisfied, so that the competitiveness of products in the market is enhanced.
