The Study Of Land Use Change And Urban Expansion In Taian City Based On RS And GIS

Land use change is one of the most important components and key factors of global environmental change. It is always the hot spot of geography and it's related subject. As one of the most severe region affacted by human being, urban area has been aroused wide concern.With the rapid development of our scocio-economic, the pace of urbanization become fast, the contradiction of the supply and the need of urban land is increasing gradually. In recent years, the study on the land use change is mainly focus on large cities in China, while fewer studied on middle-sized and small cities. This paper will not only make up for the deficiency of it, but also provide valuable imformation on middle-sized and small cities.The study of the paper include: 1. Analysing the changes on quantity, structure and transformation of land use change between 1987 and 2006 under the support of Erdas 9.2 image interpretation software. It is found that the most significant change in study area is the build-up area, which have been increased 6334.5 hm2 ,with the variance ratio of 260.3% in 19 years. Followed by country-rural area, increase 7389.69 hm2, with the variance ratio of 65.4%; forest increase 15770.32 hm2, variance ratio of 52.29%; unused land decrease 2303.05 hm2, variance ratio of -40.29%; agriculture decrease 31193 hm2, variance ratio of -26.9%; non-river (reservoir, pond etc.) increase 721.93 hm2, variance ratio of 26.02%. The newly incresed areas of both build-up area and country-rural area were from agriculture. The agriculture area were taken up mainly by forest, ochard, country-rural and build-up area, while the newly increased area of agriculture merely take up 8.54% of its 1987.2. Analysing the changes of expansion of build-up area in 1979, 1987 and 2006 after extracting their boundarys with the help of ArcGIS software. It is found that the build-up area was mainly westward with the shape of">"from 1979 to 1987. The expansion focus on south, west and east with the the shape of inverted trapezoidal. After the analysis of the compactness of build-up area in each period, we found that the decline of compactness is gentle in 1987-2006 than in 1979-1987.3. We analyse the two factors of build-up area expansion. First, the restrictions of natural envionment are gradually emerged in the process of rapid development. Second, railways play the leading role in early stages of the city. While the importance of both highway and expressway, which are the"traction lines"of build-up area, is gradually rising with the city's further development.
