Nowadays, there have been many references on the physical anthropology and population genetics. Bouyei is the southern minority in China. Nothing has reported about Bouyei in physical anthropology and population genetics. Hence, a major effort has been directed at investigating physical anthropology and population genetics of Bouyei in Qian-nan of Guizhou province in August, 2003.In 494 adults (259 males and 235 females), 58 items of anthropometry and 9 items of somatoscopy have been investigated. Meanwhile, in 320 middle school students (172 males and 148 females), 25 population genetic items have also been investigated. The results are as follows:(l) the eye fold of the upper eyelid has high frequencies. The Mongoloid fold has low percentage, the nasal root height is medium and low size in most of males and females respectively. The alae nasi height is medium size and the lobe type is round frequently. Hair color is black and eye color is brown frequently. Most of males and females have yellow and light yellow skin color respectively. Some types of physical characteristics, including brachycephaly, hypsicephaly type, tapeinocephalic type, euruprosopy, mesorrhiny, medium length of trunk, mesdeg, medium chest circumference, broad breadth of shoulder and broad distance between iliac crests are observed in the highest percentage. The average stature is 158.6cm for males and 149.4cm for females. (2) The comparison were made among physical characteristics of Bouyei and 30 other nationalities in China. The results of cluster analysis show Bouyei has physical characteristics of southern nationality in China, which are close to Miaozu's (Hainan), Yizu's, Shuizu's and Lahu's. The results of principal component analysis show the physical characteristics of Bouyei are close to Shuizu's and Dongzu's. (3) From all variational curves of physical circumference, maximum of every physical circumference in Bouyei converges on middle age. Mean value of horizontal head circumference in all the 4 groups don't vary much. Whereas, those of girth of chest, abdominal circumference, hip circumference, girth of upper arm and fore-arm, maximum biceps circumference, girth of thigh and the calf change greatly. (4) Mean body weights of males and females are highest in middle age. In all the 4 groups, mean value of body weight and the length of body (stature, height of tragion superior iliac spine, sitting height, length of upper and lower limb) change greatly. While those of breadth of body (breadth of shoulder, distance between iliac crests) and head-face items (head length, face breadth and auricular height) don't vary much. (5) As a whole, each skinfold of females is thicker than the one of males of the same-age-Bouyei adults. The changes of 6...
