A self-made inorganic powder-hydrotalcite was used to modify PET. The ratio of terphthalic acid and ethylene glycol is 1:1.3. The synthesis conditions and esterification kinetics were discussed, and polyesters properties were studied.Kinetics results showed that with the addition of the modifier, the esterification activation energy of PET increased obviously. While in the same conditions, polycondensation reaction prolonged. In the same conditions, of the intrinsic viscosity and molecular weight of hydrotalcite polyesters were significantly lower than that of pure PET.Thermal performance test showed that modification of PET by hydrotalcite and pure polyester have no significant change before 400℃. However,in the same test conditions the weight loss of the modified PET by hydrotalcite is less than that of pure PET.. The thermal stability of the modified samples has been improved. The transition temperature (Tg, Tcc, Tm) are all changed.X-ray diffraction testing results showed that the crystal grain size of the modified PET by hydrotalcite increased and the crystallinity declined. In the synthesis process, some hydrotalcite has changed.Simulating spinning and dyeing experiments showed that compared with the pure PET, the spinnability of the modified PET samples is worse, and the acid dyestuff dyeing ability has been slight modified.Ethanolamine was used to modify PET, but the color of the condensation products is worse.
