HRPIB refers to the a-end of the double bond content of more than 80% of the low molecular weight polyisobutylene, which have been widely used in many areas. In order to increase HRPIB polarity, many methods has been studied.Epoxidation of HRPIB will be another way, which introduce the polaric Epoxy group to the chain of HRPIB, the new reactive groups to HRPIB can make it more active and expand its application areas. Two kinds of methods for the epoxidation of HRPIB were reported in this paper, that is in situ acid method and inter-chloro-peroxy benzoic acid (MCPBA) epoxy method. At the same time, the optimum process conditions for both methods were determined. FT-IR,13C NMR, and other analytic methods were used to characterize the product. In this paper, orthogonal and single factor experiments were e mployed to determine the optimal reaction condition in MCPBA Epoxidation process. The appropriate process conditions are as follows:reaction temperature 30℃, reaction time 2h, double bond with MCPBA of the molar ratio of 1:1.3,at this condition, the epoxy value is about 0.8.The prepared products were characterized by IR and13C NMR.In the infrared spectrum analysis shownd that, the 810-950cm-1,1284cm-1 occurs around the characteristic peaks of epoxy group to prove the target product.NMR 13C NMR spectral analysis showed that, 52.5ppm and 56.75ppm occured around the characteristic peaks which is the characteristic of Epoxy-group.They are absorption peak.of two carbon double bondsFinally, the curing systems and heat properties of the cured product for EHRPIB were reported, the best cure agent is maleic anhydride, curing time and curing temperature is 80℃/2h+150℃/2h+200℃/12h, the best curing ratio of EPIB to acetic anhydride is 100:35 (wt). TGA analysis showed that the cured product has a initial decomposition temperature and the end of temperature of 329.4℃,417.5℃, which demonstrate that this new epoxy resin have good heat resistance.
