Titanium resources are very rich and very broad distribution, almost all over the world. At present, titanium minerals which content TiO2 more than 1% are over 140 kinds. But at this stage, there are only a few minerals of the value in use, mainly rutile and ilmenite, followed by the leucoxene, anatase. Titanium sand ore was weatheringed in the form process, some soluble components were dissolution, but also attached a number of precious minerals, often symbiosis with zircon and monazite. These minerals are characterized by the higher contents of Fe2O3, the ratio of FeO/Fe2O3 is lower, mineral structure is looser, gangue contents are less, TiO2 will be separated easily with other ingredients by beneficiation methods. Therefore, the utilization ratio of titanium sand ore is relatively higher.Yunnan Metallurgical Group Co. will construct a titanium industrial base, thereinto, titanium slag project was started on August 16,2006, and so the supply of raw materials is an urgent requirement. But, because of the decentralization of Yunnan province resources, grade instability, high impurity content, the raw materials can not meet the requirements of titanium slag smelting. At present, in province, TiO2 grade of the rough titanium concentrates in Yunnan province is about 46%. In order to ensure the quality of titanium concentrates, this paper focuses on experimental study on rough titanium concentrate cleaning, to supply experiment gist for industrial production, so this paper have practical guide.In this paper, a rough titanium concentrate in Yunnan was taken as the research sample to increase its titanium content and to decrease its content of calcium, magnesium, silicon, aluminum and other impurities. The sample's TiO2 grade is 45.88%, Totall Fe content is 27.96%, FeO23.75%, Fe2O313.46%, CaO0.05%, MgO4.16%, SiO24.95%, A12O32.79%. Mineralogy studies show that 97.55% of TiO2 is existed in the form of ilmenite,1.28% in pseudo-rutile and rutile, and very small of only 1.17% in titanomagnetite and limonite. Based on the existing state of titanium, rutile and pseudo-rutile is in favor of improving product grade, but a certain amount of limonite, quartz, feldspar and calcite is an important factor, which affects the improving of products grade. Therefore, to improve product grade, the content of those impurities must be decreased.With the rough titanium concentrate's magnetic separation tests, gravity separation tests, combined gravity-magnetic tests and reverse flotation tests have been carried out and the combined gravity-magnetic process flow is adopted finally. This flow is not only economical and rational, but also environmental protection and fitting for the basic requirements of modern production.By using the combined gravity-magnetic process flow, this study obtained the final titanium concentrate of TiO248.34% and the recovery reached up to 95.34%. The content of FeO and Fe2O3 in the concentrate is 33.78% and 15.21% respectively, the impurities in the concentrate is CaO0.0155%, MgO0.96%, SiO21.38%, Al2O30.40%.
