Large vertical glass edge grinding machine is one of the key equipments of energy-efficient glass deep-processing, which is used to grind the quads of cutting fast-setting glasses by grinder into needed ones and avoid personnel scratches in order to meet the needs of applications in various environments. Currently, domestic large vertical glass edge grinding machines still depend on being imported from other economic developed countries such as Switzerland, Italy, Austria, South Korea and so on. Therefore it caused tremendous costs in both foreign currency and maintenance. It is critical for the research in this paper to promote localization process of large vertical glass edge grinding machine and improve the innovation in energy-efficient glass fields and skills in equipment industry at home.The vibration mode and natural frequency of machinery are closely related to its resonance phenomena. In order to reduce vibration, avoid resonance and improve the edging quality of machine, it is necessary to do dynamic analysis. In our new developed digital controlled vertical edge grinding machine, a ball screw is used as feeding mechanism, while in vertical edge grinding machine, the long trip of grinding head institution and screw both lead to the degradation of feeding system rigidity and anti-vibration performance. Apart from that, in the process of grinding, it's easy to bring the problems of uneven grinding and system vibration. This paper considered the grinding head institution in large vertical glass grinding machine as study object and mainly put emphasis on mechanical fringe to accomplish the identification experiment of dynamic parameters of fringe. Then built the fringe model in finite element analysis software named ANSYS. Results of modal analysis were compared with results of modal test conducted through model of rigid connection and model of spring damper. The result showed that the results from modal analysis of spring damper connection model are closer to the measured values, which verified the rationality of spring damper connection model and got 1st to 5th order natural frequency of grinding head institution and its corresponding vibration model. Through harmonic response analysis, the response in the actual working situation of grinding machine was simulated, and possible reasons were given about the uneven phenomenon in the process of grinding machine's edging.This project was based on the process of grinding machine, and constructed both hardware and software platform under grinding machine's control. Open digital system of "NC embedded PC" was applied in this project. IMAC adopted as motion controller in lower computer combined with the Industry PC in the upper computer have together completed tasks like multi-axial control, communication, human-computer interaction, display and monitoring.
