Silver-plated fiber has excellent antibacterial properties as a new functional fiber of surface metallization, the antimicrobial fabric developed by which received more and more attention. Therefore, the study of the performance of silver-plated fiber and fabric has significance for development of antibacterial products by silver-plated fiber.In this paper, the physical and chemical properties of silver-plated fiber, including silver content, friction property and breaking strength of chemical reagents treated fiber, as well as antibacterial properties of silver-plated fiber. Different silver-plated fiber and fabric have designed and produced based on the research and analysis the performance of silver-plated fiber, and the antibacterial activity of the fabrics were tested to study the critical amount of silver-plated fibers, the effect of matched fibers on the silver-plated fabric and the antibacterial properties of fabric with different distribution of silver-plated fiber, which as foundation of modified the critical blending ratio with different distribution and different matched fiber, and made design and development technical route of antibacterial fabric with silver-plated fiber by experiment and the second amendment.The test results show that the silver on the fiber surface is dissolution antimicrobial agent, and silver-plated fibers have good antibacterial properties against E. coli and S. aureus, the antimicrobial rates were both above 99%. The antibacterial ratio of fabric of silver-plated fiber can meet requirements when the silver-plated content was 4.9%. Different matched fibers have different effect on bacterial performance of silver-plated fiber, which should be treated differently in the development of antibacterial fabric. Because of good dissolution of silver, the silver-plated fiber yarn and other yarns can use with interval in a certain range of silver content when guarantee the amount of silver-plated fiber to achieve antibacterial fabric, does not affect the antibacterial property of fabric. Designing the test method according oscillation method in the standard of evaluation for antibacterial activity of textile, can determine the critical amount of antibacterial fiber in theory and critical amount of matched fiber in fact. Application examples show that this method is a fast, low consumption and effective technology to determine the amount of antimicrobial fiber, and have certain guidance significance on production. Sirofil yarn process and core-spun yarn process are two technical and economic process route to develop antimicrobial fabric by silver-plated fiber, the former suitable for showing the color of silver-plated fiber on the fabric, whereas, the latter applies to the design "hide" the color of fiber.
