Digital Reconstruction Design And Application Research Of Grass Cloth Weaving Technique

Hand weaving technique of grass cloth has a long history, making grass cloth with natural and earthy appearance and to be an important treasure in southwest area with rather great historical, cultural and economic values. Such grass cloth performs various advantageous functions:excellent moisture, resistances to erosion, abrasion and bacteria, and great odor-fighting power. However, under the circumstance of industrial textile production nowadays, hand weaving technique of grass cloth have been supplanted and gradually out of public sight, as the technique needs long time, high cost and performs low efficiency. Given such cloth faces to hard survival status, and its weaving process keeps developing with a long history, grass cloth now becomes Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage and in special protection, which is far from the previous daily activities.At present, the public is gradually aware of the importance of cultural heritage protection in the heritage and development of human culture. National conservation efforts are developing quickly, and researchers have considered the protection methods as their main studying subject. Digital Information Technology has made itself as a new and effective method to protect the heritage with immediacy, interactivity, globalization and pretty good economic values. It is a rather reasonable and scientific protection approach acting well with society development nowadays. For the sake of conservation and propagation, in this paper, grass cloth is treated as the studying object to investigate the way of using Digital Information Technology, making it to be developing better in broader space.This topic has 5 parts. The first one mainly elaborates the research background, significance and method, and the research state at home and abroad. The second part introduces the 7 steps of grass cloth weaving in detail including scutching, manual spinning, pirn winding, sizing, threading, weaving, rinsing and reforming. In the third part, the digital graphics of grass cloth weaving loom are designed and fabricated, clearly indicating the working mechanism, structure features and interaction relations of loom parts. Additionally, the design method of each step producing grass cloth using graphic design software, and the method of 3D graphic data transforming into 2D graphics are discussed. Following the third part, the application suggestions of grass cloth weaving techniques vector graphics in Intangible Cultural Heritage websites, cartoon, comic strip and intelligent games, also the specific design method and promotion strategies are introduced. Furthermore, some testes are conducted. Finally, this work is concluded, and the shortcomings and prospects are described.
