Automatic lathe main knife rest driving cam is the core component to realize the automatic feed movement of the lathe tool. Its performance quality directly affects the processing effect of automatic lathe. But the design and the processing of this kind of cam mechanism is relatively complex, and it is necessary to change the driving cam in group when processing the different machining parts. In order to improve the quality and market competitiveness of the product, analyzing and remolding the automatic lathe main carriage driving cam, and fast and accurate design is one of the main research directions in the industry. This article takes the CG1107 automatic lathe used by Xianyang northwest medical co. LTD as an example. It combined Matlab software with Solidworks software, designed and built the 3D model of the automatic lathe main carriage driving cam quickly and efficiently. The result can provide effective technical support of the production and processing of this kind of cam, which will shorten the design cycle.This article reviewed the kinematics and dynamics research background, development situation and overseas and domestic research status of the cam mechanism. It takes the CG1107 automatic lathe used in Xianyang northwest medical co. LTD as an example, and analyzed the working principle of automatic lathe. Then it combined the method with some specific examples, determined the motion principle of the automatic lathe main carriage driving cam, and used Matlab software to program the profile curve of the cam. Finally, it used Solidworks software to simulate the 3D model of the cam, analyzed the kinematics and dynamics characteristics of cam mechanism, and verified the design results.When using the traditional design method for cam 3D modeling, people always ignore the phenomenon of cam acceleration break. However, in the extending stroke and return stroke of every knife rest cam on the main knife rest, its motion is normally uniform motion. Using the traditional design methods, there will generate a rigid impact. In order to avoid the influence of the rigid impact on the cam mechanism, this article calculated extending stroke, farthest dwell, return stroke of the cam profile respectively, and then led coordinates of the four stages into the Solidworks software. Finally, according to the required extending stroke motion angle, farthest dwell angle, return stroke motion angle and nearest dwell angle, it connected the four stages with appropriate arc radius, in order to reduce the impact phenomenon of cam mechanism because of the acceleration break.When designing the automatic lathe main knife rest driving cam, it only needs to adjust the parameters of the cam mechanism according to processing requirements, which is able to obtain the required cam profile quickly and accurately. Afterwards it can use 3D modeling software and thread cutting device, to complete the processing of the cam. Compared with the traditional cam profile design, this article provides parameterized design method of automatic lathe driving cam refining the reverse angle, which improves the precision of the cam profile line.
