Due to its special chemical structure and unique properties, ferrocene has been widely applied in a number of areas. Such as chemical catalysis, biological medicine, aeronautics and astronautics, photosensitive materials, magnetic materials and so on. As an significant research field of organic liquid crystal, the derivatives of ferrocene especially the [3]-ferrocenophane which has the property of low and wide phasetransition temperature have been attracted numerous attention of many chemists. 1,3-diketone, the organic bidentate ligand, can form stability coordination compounds with almost all metal. These compounds have been widely applied in the areas of enrich rare earth, ionic liquids, photoluminescence and so on. In addition, lots of researches about the liquid crystal property of β-diketone metal coordination compounds have been carried out. Due to their unique optical and electrical properties, the compounds, containing azo group, have been widely applied in many areas, such as photoelectric conversion, an optical data storage, and a liquid crystal display.In this paper, we have designed and synthesized a series of transitional metal coordination compounds containing [3]-ferrocenophane β-diketone ligand and a series of azo group compounds. All of the terminal products have been characterized by NMR, IR, MS, elemental analysis. The properties of these compounds, such as electrochemical properties, optics, thermodynamics, have been studied by CV, UV-vis, TG, DSC. Their liquid crystal property have been tested by POM.
