In the background of the new national urbanization strategy in China, industrialization and urbanization develop rapidly, which lead to increased consumption of resources and energy, serious damaging to the environment. Today, fog and haze has seriously affected people’s health and normal life, so the environmental issue has became a serious problem.Baoding is in an important position of Ring the capital circle and it is the capital of the south gate to defend. Especially in the background of " the ease of non-core functions of the capital" by the general secretary Xi Jinping, wich provides good opportunities for socio-economic development of Baoding, while its environmental problems also become the focus of attention.For ecological security problem of Baoding, this paper studied by two methods: the methods of traditional ecological footprint model and the calculation of GIS space.Traditional ecological footprint method: First of all, introduce the "National ha" which instead of "global ha", and calculate balancing factor and yield factors.Based on the collected data to calculate and ecological capacity. Finally, from, wan yuan GDP ecological footprint evaluates ecological security of Baoding, and the results are analyzed.The results display: From 2005-2012, the economics of Baoding develop rapidly, while the ecological capacity is in a gradual downward trend and the ecological footprint is in an upward trend. Which lead to the ecological deficit(surplus), ecological pressure index is in an upward trend. But wan yuan GDP ecological footprint is in a downward trend which suggests that the efficiency of resource use has increased in Baoding.GIS-based computing space: GIS space calculation method is based on the space of balancing factor, introducing the first net primary productivity(NPP) technology to achieve this space. Then on the basis of the space of the balancing factor calculate the spatial data of ecological footprint and ecological capacity of Baoding. At last, raster calculated by the space data of ecological footprint and ecological capacity, as result of the space of ecological deficit(surplus), ecological pressure index which reflect the spatial pattern of ecological security of Baoding.The results display: Ecological security situation of Baoding is relatively stable, and in a very unsafe condition generally, but the interior space is unevenly distributed. Overall, the ecological safety of forest and grassland in western is high;the Baoding city and county built-up area is in poor security, which is mainly due to differences in the types of land caused.The advantages and disadvantages of the two methods is obviously, but no matter what kind of analysis we can see that the Ecological Security of Baoding is declining from the year from 2005 to 2012. and Baoding is currently in a state of insecurity. So in the future, the city of Baoding must find a sustainable path of development, while developing economic rapidly, and only focusing on protecting the environment, can give full play to the important role as the capital of the south gate about Baoding..
