In this work the diffusion behaviors of acid dyes(C.I. Acid Blue 7 and C.I. Acid Red 1) in color paste for applicable for textile printing were investigated by employing a self-built cell equipped with a transparently cylindrical container, temperature sensors and a UV spectrophotometer to record or measure the relevant data, through which the diffusion rate was calculated. The diffusion rate of the C.I. Acid Blue 7 in sodium alginate paste was determined at different temperatures, solid content of the thickener, and the effects of additives such as glycerol, carbamide and ammonium sulfate in paste were also investigated. The diffusion rate of the C.I. Acid Red 1 in sodium alginate paste was also investigated for contrast test with C.I. Acid Blue 7. Then the diffusion rate of the C.I. Acid Blue 7 in guar gum paste and carboxymethyl starch paste was researched for verification. Moreover, a power function model was also supposed to characterize and compare the various effects from the temperature parameter and different additives on the acid dye diffusion behavior by employing an independent variable of diffusion time. The results show that the determination of the diffusion rate of the acid dye in sodium alginate paste, guar gum paste and carboxymethyl starch paste was achieved successfully. The diffusion rate of the acid dye significantly increased with the temperature from 75℃ to 95℃, and the addition of glycerol in paste, however, notably decreased with the dosage of sodium alginate thickener from 4.0% to 9.0%, and with the application of the additives of carbamide from 2% to 7% and ammonium sulfate from 1% to 3.5% in paste. Moreover, the supposed power function model was validated by experimental data correlation successfully.
