The application of gear transmission has a long history, which is one of the most important forms of mechanical transmission, because the involute helical gear owns many characteristics, it is widely used in mechanical transmission. Compared with the common involute gear processing method, form grinding is a kind of hard-surface gear finish machining method which has high precision, high efficiency and low cost. The precision of gear is decided by the contour precision of forming grinding wheel when forming grinding involute helical gear. How to trim a high-precision shape of grinding wheel and then processing high-precision involute helical is one of the significant contents on gear form grinding studies.Based on analytic geometry and gear engagement principle to analyze the position of forming grinding wheel and involute helical, then setting up the mathematical model of involute helical gear. By the tangent feature of involute helical and grinding wheel to deduce the space contact line equation. Through the transformation formulas of the coordinates to transform the connect line of space to the grinding wheel in the coordinate system, then the grinding wheel axial cross-sectional shape will be getted.Solving the contact line equation is very important for calculation of the grinding wheel cross-sectional shape, to solve transcendental equation is the key to the contact line equation.Using MATLAB numerical analysis to solve transcendental equation and calculate the profile of grinding wheel is the basic train of thought. The grinding wheel cross-sectional shape data are fitted in the three-dimensional software to establish the three-dimensional model of grinding wheel. According to the grinding wheel cross-sectional shape data and the structure characteristics of the dresser, the method of dressing grinding wheel by CNC grinding wheel dresser is putted forward to trim the grinding wheel. To analysis the selection conditions of some process parameters, then to program the R parameter process for trimming grinding wheel. To verify the grinding wheel cross-sectional shape data and the correctness of theprograms, the helical gear grinding experiment is carried out.In order to make the final result of forming grinding displayed more convenient and simple, basing on MATLAB GUIDE module to design a form grinding with grinding wheel dressing software which can be used for the calculation of grinding wheel and generate NC programs of the helical gear automatically. Changing the input parameters, the shape of grinding wheel and the programs will be changed accordingly. It can make the application easier.
