Preparing WRTPE by blending GTR with thermoplastic becomes more and more popular in recycling waste tire rubber. In this paper, we studied the effect of thermoplastic, GTR, interfacial reaction and processing method on morphological, mechanical and rheological properties of WRTPE. At the end, we selected a proper kind of thermoplastic and GTR as well as processing method, systemly judged different interfacial reaction enforcing method. More details are below:The crystal degree of different PP are tested with the use of DSC, the fracture surface of WRTPE after tensile test are observed using SEM. Results showed that the interfacial incorporation of WRTPE based on PP with lower crystal degree is more tighter. The mechanical properties of WRTPE also are tested, we found that WRTPE achieved best properties when K8303 combined C1608 at ratio 60/40 as the matrix. The characteristics of GTR of different tire region and prepared by different method are measured by SEM, XPS, Contact angle analysis machine, TGA and Soxhlet extraction before blending with PP. The properties tests of WRTPE based on different GTR illustrated that shape and surface appearance of GTR determined the rheological properties of WRTPE, rubber content and particle size determined the mechanical properties of WRTPE.The surface energy of PP, GTR and various compatibilizers are tested by using Contact angle analysis machine, SEM and AFM analysised compatibilization of different compatibilizers. Results showed that PP/SEBS/GTR blends with best interfacial incorporation, the thickness of module transition layer between PP and GTR increased 367% and the elongation of WRTPE increased 40% when compared to PP/GTR blends. Desulfurization agent decreased tensile strength of WRTPE due to it broken the main polymer chain of GTR as well as crosslink bonds. B-450 exhibits best effects among 3 kinds of desulfurization agent and the optimum volume is 0.4-0.6phr based on GTR content. Torque curves of SEBS and GTR with various crosslinking agents were carried out to investigate the change of crosslinking degree. It is interesting to find that DCP can crosslink both GTR and SEBS, related mechanisms were discussed in this paper. PP/SEBS/DCP/GTR blends with best interfacial incorporation exhibited highest tensile strength and viscosity. Considering processing fluidity, the optimum volum of DCP is 0.3~0.5phr based on PP content.Preparing WRTPE by Internal Mixer, Internal Mixer and Twin Screw Extruder, Twin Screw Extruder and studied the change in morphological and mechanical properties of WRTPE. WRTPE prepared by Twin Screw Extruder exhibites best interfacial incorporation and mechanical properties. At last, we prepared 3 kinds of waterproofing materials based on final recipe. All of them showed a good performance.
