With the development of the economy and the progress of the society, the demand for the oil filter paper of the domestic market and export market is increasing rapidly. The range of application of the oil filter paper is more extensive, and it gradually extends to the petroleum, marine, aerospace, precision machine tools, paint industry and food industry and so on, which improves the quality of the oil filter requirements. Wherein the base paper to the performance of the filter paper impact including the air permeability, porosity, maximum pore size, mean pore size, the filtration efficiency, the filtration accuracy, service life and dirt holding capacity, etc has a great effect. And the making of base paper is generally using the different types and different functions of fiber to meet the different performance requirements of the oil filter. Since the resin impregnation process of the oil filter have an important role in improving filter paper’s physical strength and structural strength and the processing performance, so preparing the excellent performance and meeting the demand of oil filter paper resin is an important part of the experiment. This paper are studied mainly on the oil filter paper papermaking process and oil filter paper with water soluble phenolic resin preparation and application.1. Through of two kinds of the foreign oil filter paper fiber’s composition and morphology were tested, it can be concluded that the two kinds of oil filter paper certainly contain coniferous wood pulp, the chemi-mechanical pulp and may contain mercerizing pulp. By element analysis, it is concluded that samples contain mainly C, O, H three elements, and the content of other elements are within the scope of the plant fiber raw material trace elements. It can be determined the samples are not adding inorganic fibers.2. In view of the oil filter paper to the requirement of physical strength and permeability, research that the beating degree of coniferous wood pulp is 20 degrees° SR, the added mass fraction of 12.5% dosage of PAE as wet strength agent of 1% can satisfy its desired physical strength properties. At the same time for the oil filter paper with breathable performance requirements, explore the best oil filter with copying process for m (coniferous wood pulp):m (hardwood pulp):m (mechanism for pulp)= 5:2:3, the optimum amount mercerized pulp is 3%.3. To ensure the quality of the oil filter paper products, the impregnating agents resin must be used for the base paper for the immersion treatment to improve the physical strength of paper and the structural strength of the sheet. Through experiments to explore the best water-soluble phenolic resin synthesis conditions:phenol ratio of 1: 1.2, laboratory-made alkaline catalyst of 10%, the holding time of 2.5h. When the immersion time is 60s, and impregnated glue is 4%,the results are best. By combining the DSC and TGA analysis, the best curing temperature of the water-soluble phenolic resin is 139 ℃, and the curing time is 20min.4. Through the research on the application of water soluble phenolic resin, it can be concluded that enhanced filter tensile strength and bursting strength retention rate are more than 70% after soaking in water or oil for 3 days. The pore size distribution is basically unchanged back and forth the filter paper impregnated with phenolic resin, it means that aperture is mainly determined by the pore size of the base paper after the filter paper dipped in glue. Filter paper impregnated with phenolic resin after curing, the maximum pore size and average pore size of filter paper changed little, indicating that the water-soluble phenolic resin has no effect on the average pore size and maximum pore size of the filter paper.
