The heavy plate is one of important steel, widely used in shipbuilding, engineering machinery, boilers containers, oil platforms, energy, construction, line pipe and other industries. In national economic development, it has played a decisive role, particularly in the large-scale infrastructure construction in developing countries, which has considerable demand. In recent years, the country builds a lot of heavy plate plant, which enjoys large-scaled, swift development with the introduction of foreign advanced technology and equipment for laying strong support of the development of high grade steel. In the development of these new types of steel, cold leveling machine plays a crucial role in. During the cooling process, due to steel plate deformation, plate shape is difficult to meet the requirements of the customer needs, which demands leveling in cold situation to meet customer needs.This article, regarding flatness control of 9 roller cold leveling machine of 4300mm heavy plate production line as background, based on various accidents occurred in the site plate leveling process, with the investigation of existing problems of system, puts forward the optimization of flatness control system, improvement proposal, while VME system network communication system between the shape meter and cold leveling machine is designed, which takes use of SMS’VME as the main controller, by the Profibus DP network, communication of frequency converter and medium station as well as other equipment are available. Depending on the design, VME based on cold plate leveling and the flatness control system builds up the closed loop control. The flatness control system and straightening machine system engineer station is able to carry out the system monitoring and management, the system can improve the stability of control system, and then meet the accuracy requirements of steel plate shape control.This article mainly studies the flatness control system, completes the closed loop design of flatness control system, by means of on-site practice and effect analysis, improvement effect is obvious, so that the accuracy of the control system is more accurate, equipment operating more stable, which greatly improves the leveling efficiency enhances the product appearance quality, and ensures the safety of personnel and equipment operation, as well as reduces labor intensity and maintenance costs.
