As a technology widely used in the field of steel and non-ferrous metals product, continuous casting technology has been occupying the important position in metallurgical industry. Since the continuous casting technology being created, these advantages such as saving cost, improving slabs’quality, convenient to automation control have been more and more reflected after many years’practical application and continuous improvement. How to improve the yield of continuous caster and enhance the quality of slabs has been one of the hottest topics in this research field. The quality of slabs is closely related to the quantity of second-cooling water, and continuous casting speed is one of the main factors which affect the quantity of second-cooling water, therefore, in the continuous casting production process, caster operation optimal control is of great significance to improve the efficiency of the continuous caster and enhance the quality of slabs.So, this paper launched a study about continuous casting operation optimization under the time disturbance basing on POD method. According to the order of proposing the question-analysis the question-solving the question, following the main line of building model-solving model-experimental verification, firstly, the paper described key technologies which include three aspects:the model of continuous casting solidification, the control methods about second-cooling water and the POD method; On this bases, the paper analysed the basic situation of the continuous casting process and the reason why the disturbances emerged in the continuous casting production process; through the study of the continuous casting solidification heat transfer model, the paper proposed strategies to solve these problems and set up the the steady-state optimization model and the dynamic model; then, the paper designed the corresponding algorithm for existing models using the finite difference method, the POD method,0.618 method and genetic algorithm; finally, the paper solved these models using a continuous caster’s data basing on MATLAB and did a series of simulation experiments, thereby the operating efficiency of the continuous caster has been improved and the surface and internal quality of the slabs has been assured, then the problem has been well solved.
