Calixarene, is a kind of macrocyclic oligomers composed of multiple phenols linked by methylene groups. Due to their convenient preparation and the unique cavity structrue, they have selective recognization abilities towards anion, cation and neutral molecules. They have received considerable attentions in the field of host-guest recognition in recent years. Because of the easy functionlization on the edge of alkyl, phenolic hydroxyl and bridging methylene, calixarene derivatives have slao been used in architecturing host molecules with recognition abilities, which are designed as excellent platform for binding special guest molecules. In this paper, some p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene derivatives containing cholesterol with liquid crystal properties, anthracene and perylene with photoelectric properties, were designed and synthesized. In addition, their complexation abilities for some organic dyes were studied. Main contents are as follows:1. The origin, synthesis, structural characteristic, chemical modification and application prospects of calix[4]arene were reviewed, selective recognization abilities towards anion, cation and neutral molecules were systematically introduced.2. Cholesterol-calix[4]arene derivatives with side-schiff base were designed and synthesized. The UV absorption spectra showed that these target compounds had good complexation abilities for organic dyes.3. Calix[4]arene derivatives containing thioureidoes with side chains of different lengths were designed and synthesized and the complexing abilities were investigated. The results showed that these target compounds had excellent complexation abilities for organic dyes.4. Calix[4]arene derivatives containing anthracene and perylene were designed and synthesized and the complexing abilities for organic dyes were studied. The experimental results showed that these compounds had good complexation abilities for organic dyes.
