Water-based ink, using water as the solvent and no VOC emissions during the printing process, can well protect the health of workers from printing enterprises and ink manufacturing enterprises; also improve the protection of the environment; and finally achieve green printing. The digital printing or inkjet printing technology represented the development direction of the printing industry and the development mainstream of the today’s printing technology. As the most important of digital inkjet printing supplies, the inkjet inks will directly affect the quality and performance of the printed product quality and other properties. Nowadays China has not yet developed a high-grade water-based inkjet inks but only relied on imports. If we can develop a water-based ink which is suitable for inkjet printing, then finally replaced the imported ink, it has a great significant to promote China’s ink-jet printing technology.The main research topics of the paper are:the preparation process and performance of water-based inkjet ink. In the preparation process of water-based inkjet ink, the dispersion process has a great influence on ink properties. Through certain experimental data comparison analysis, we found that using of zirconia beads as grinding media have better dispersion effect. We should also taking into account the particle size of the grinding media and make sure that the grinding time is generally controlled in about one hour.Experimental data show that the performance of water-based ink is proportional to dispersion effect of water-based ink. When ink dispersion particle size decreases which means the dispersion effect is getting better, the color density values,gloss, adhesion effect and viscosity values of water-based ink are all improved; selecting a single letdown resin will improve ink early drying, the amount of the solvent ink will affect its dry, adding the right amount of alcohol in the solvent will increase the ink drying effect; The structure of resin will affect the ink dispersion, and has a significant impact on the drying and film-forming properties of the ink, the thickness of the substrate material can also affect the ink adhesion; the resin and surfactant types in the ink effect the surface tension of the ink.
