Glass fiber/glass microsphere/epoxy resin composite is a new type filled polymer composites which with the superiority of characteristic of low density, high strength and versatility. In this paper, mechanical properties of composites mainly would be studied from two aspects: experiment and numerical simulation, respectively. The influencing factor and mechanical properties of composites are analyzed and discussed.Using the method of experimental study, five groups of different proportions of glass fiber/glass microsphere/epoxy resin composite which have the mass ratio 5% of glass microsphere and different mass ratio of glass fiber are prepared. The stress-strain curve and force-displacement curve of syntactic foams and mechanical properties about elastic modulus, strength and specific strength are obtained from relevant experimental data of tensile, compression and three point bending experiments, at the same time the influence of filler content of glass fiber on mechanical properties is analyzed.Applying the Webull distribution function, on the basis of variables about the wall thickness of glass microsphere the fraction of glass fiber and glass microsphere, 144 finite element models of syntactic foams with the random distribution of glass fiber and hollow glass microsphere that automatically generated are established in a specific area with ANSYS software though compiling program. According to the actual material, the reasonable boundary conditions and material attribute of glass fiber, glass microsphere and epoxy resin are set. The elastic modulus, stress-strain curve and the distribution of stress and strain filed of composites with different mechanical calculation models is obtained though numerical simulation, and the influencing factor about the mechanical properties of composites is discussed. The reason that glass fiber reinforces glass microsphere/epoxy resin composite performance of elastic-plastic is obtained though the analysis of the distribution of stress and strain filed of composites.
