For injection molding, Conformal cooling channel undoubtedly has a very attractive prospect.This technology can significantly improve production efficiency, product quality and bring great economic benefits. The disparity between China and foreign countries is greater,not only in the research level, but also the use of an injection mold in commercial applications with conformal cooling channels. This’ s because 3D printing technology is not mature enough. At the same time, due to changes in the process, the rule of cool channel design need to be innovated to adapt to the design of conformal cooling channel injection mold.In this thesis, based on selective laser melting(SLM) molding technology and the injection mold traditional cooling systems, combined with the theory of heat transfer, the key issue for the design and manufacture of plastic conformal cooling channel injection mold were studied. The design method of conformal cooling channel and the injection mold were proposed. The conformal cooling channel injection mold of plastic impeller was design and manufacture.Firstly, the relevant researches on the conformal cooling channel injection mold were analyzed. Then heat transfer in the injection molding cycle was studied, base on the theory of traditional injection molding ducted cooling and heat transfer systems, a simplified model for conformal cooling channel was established, as the goal of uniform cooling, the factors of heat transfer were studied with CAE simulation software, one of the most important factors is the distance from the wall of cooling channel. Then based on 3D printing technology(SLM),the injection molding mold characteristics of process were explored, including the molding process with 3D printing technology, properties of the mold features, accuracy of dimension, quality of surface, properties of cooling channel, the ability of clean the powder et al. Then design process of conformal cooling injection mold were studied, including molding parts of the design, the design method of conformal cooling channel, the design of the internal structure of the conformal cooling channel. Finally, as an example, the conformal cooling channel injection mold of a plastic impeller was designed and manufactured.Practice of cooling the conformal cooling channel mold was analyzed with the impeller injection mold.In this thesis, main factors of heat transfer can be used to guide the design of conformal cooling channel. The research of molding characteristics process based on SLM technology can be used as a reference for manufacturing of conformal cooling channel injection mold by 3D printing technology. Enhancement of heat transfer was innovatively brought into conformal cooling channel which can improve the heat transfer efficiency, and the design of conformal cooling channel was enriched. Design method of conformal cooling channel based on feature segmentation was presented. It is very efficiency combined with the cooling channel design and product design. As an actual production of conformal cooling channel injection mold, the impeller conformal cooling channel mold can be use for reference in the design and manufacturing of injection mold with conformal cooling channel.
