Recent years, energy issues has been attracted more and more attention. With the development of the injection molding machines, the energy consumption is more important. Within the cycle time of the injection molding, the energy consumption of the plasticizing process accounts for 50% to 70% of the whole energy consumption of the injection molding process. And then, the most important thing to reduce the whole energy is reducing the energy consumption of the plasticizing process.Based on the current studies, the paper used a metod which combinations experiment with simulation to study the energy consumption of the plasticizing process and the melt segment which are influenced by the materials, process parameters and the screw parameters.In the paper, Fluke Norma 5000 Precision Power Analyzer is used to test the plasticizing power and energy consumption of PS 158 k,ABS8434 and PP CJS700. The power and energy consumption both vary with screw speed, barrel temperature and backpressure. When the material parameters and screw parameters are setting to be constant, as the screw speed increasing, the total plasticizing energy consumption increases; as the barrel temperature increasing, the total plasticizing energy consumption decreases; as the backpressure increases, the total plasticizing energy consumption increases.In the paper, the software ANSYS POLYFLOW is used to simulate the flow field of the melt segment and study the influence of the process parameters and screw parameters on the melt segment energy consumption, and the proportion of the melt segment energy consumption of the plasticizing total energy. The simulation results of the paper are analyzed with the flow field. Conclusions according to the study: Set the process parameters and screw parameters to constant, the melt segment energy consumption increases, and the proportion of melt energy consumption in the total plasticizing energy consumption increases; as the barrel temperature increasing, the melt segment energy consumption decreases, the proportion of melt energy consumption in the total plasticizing energy consumption decreases; as the backpressure increases, the melt segment energy consumption increases, the proportion decreases. Set the process parameters and screw parameters to constant, the total plasticizing energy consumption of PS is the lowest, the proportion of melt energy consumption in the total plasticizing energy consumption distributed from 10.31% to 16.15%; the total plasticizing energy consumption of ABS is the higher than PS, the proportion distributed from 5.13% to 6.78%; the total plasticizing energy consumption of PP is the highest, the proportion distributed from 1.98% to 3.35%. Set the material parameters and the process parameters to constant, as the spiral groove depth increases, the melt segment energy consumption decreases.Finally, the paper uses simulation combined with the orthogonal test determining that the barrel temperature has the largest impact on the melt segment energy consumption, the backpressure has the smallest impact and the screw speed is between the two.
